Jenzabar (Enrollment Introduction)

Jenzabar (Enrollment Introduction)

UPDATE FOR TEXAS COLLEGE FACULTY: DO NOT add the BioSig-ID™ enrollment instructions to your courses, as seen in the training instructions/video.
The BioSig-ID™ Enrollment instructions are centrally added in the top-left corner after you login to JICS, on the home page below Portal.
BioSig-ID Enrollment Instruction location under Portal on Central Texas home page.
Please visit the Adding BioSig-ID to a Course in Jenzabar article to add BioSig-ID™ to each week, as this is still a requirement for SACS Accreditation.

Students validate their identity with a BioSig-ID™ profile quickly to unlock 'gated' items within Jenzabar/JICS, such as a course, quiz or any Jenzabar/JICS item that supports adaptive release conditions. Establishing a BioSig-ID™ profile is a one-time occurrence that obviously needs to be explained to the student to avoid confusion and to make it as easy as possible. To that extent the following explanation can be incorporated within Jenzabar/JICS.

The instructions can be added to a dedicated engage/on-boarding course, or to each course individually that will use BioSig-ID™. The benefit of using a single course is that any modifications in the future only need to be made once, but BioSig-ID™ has full support for the Jenzabar/JICS replication system to yield the same results if templates are modified.

Prerequisites: BioSig-ID™ Jenzabar/JICS External Tool (LTI) has been installed, configured and made available.

STEP 1: Adding the BioSig-ID™ instructions

Close to the start of the course add a content item that can contain HTML code.

HINT: Within the Jenzabar/JICS WYSIWYG content editor use the "< >" button to allow pasting of HTML code.

Depending on the features purchased, you have the option to select one of the sets of instructions from below for your course.

Option 1:
Title
BioSig-ID™ Enrollment
Description
  1. <p>As part of our initiative to improve student success and academic integrity, all on-line students are required to verify their student identity. <p>As an on-line student, you will be asked to create a biometric password using a tool called Biometric Signature ID (BioSig-ID&trade;). This password cannot be replicated by someone else.</p>
<p>You will be asked at various points throughout the course to validate your identity.</p>
    <p><strong>Please Note:</strong> All BioSig-ID&trade; activity takes place in the Jenzabar/JICS course/s.</p>

For BioSig-ID™ with the BioProof-ID™ feature active, the result would look like:

STEP 2: Creating a Tool Instance

Within the same unit that the BioSig-ID™ Enrollment instructions were added we now will add the BioSig-ID™ tool-instance by adding an assignment in the unit.
Click "Add an Assignment"

Choose "The Basic Format"

Jenzabar will now show "Step One: General Assignment Information" as per the image below; enter the following information:
Name BioSig-ID™ Enrollment/Practice (click here)
Due Date = Disable due date and hide the assignment from all My Calendar feeds
Grading = Graded, 1 Point, Not Included in Final Grade

Under "Step Two: Basic Assignment Options"
Click the down arrow next to "The Learning for this assignment" and select BioSig-ID™ from the drop-down menu.

Under "Step Three: Instructions & Files" click "Save your new assignment"

This completes the BioSig-ID™ enrollment instructions that will prepare students. The process of enrollment is fully self-guided, but explaining the institutions reasons for this implementation is also important. Watching the enrollment video will help students overcome confusion about the process.

As an instructor you will be able to rely on the grade-book in your course to see if students have enrolled/practices via this LTI tool-instance. Keep in mind that the BioSig-ID™ enrollment process is a one-time occurrence, so student may have completed this process in another course already. Everybody is unique, but after 3-to-5 successful validations the entire process becomes second-nature.
